I was out shopping with the boys the other day, and decided it was time to throw another cooking video up on youtube. I turned the cart down the baking aisle, and spotted Betty Crocker’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix and, well, I was kinda confused.
Hey, I love cookies as much as the next guy. All sorts of cookies. In fact, I don’t know too many types of cookies I’m not a fan of. Heck, I’ll even eat fortune cookies, and NOBODY eats those! I’m just a little surprised that a brand like Betty Crocker (a General Mills Company), would even dream of mixing 2 classics like Oatmeal and Chocolate Chips together. Both of these are a great headlining cookie in their own right, but to mash them up? Isn’t that like Chevrolet and Ford creating a car together? Or saying that because I like Pumpkin Pie and Key Lime, That maybe I should layer them in the same pie tin? That’s just insanity!
There was really only one way to see if they made an error of epic proportions. I decided to buy the bag, and see if they really made the mistake I could only imagine their creation to be. Let my taste buds (and those of my sons) be the judge.
Are you ready for this? I WAS WRONG. It’s not very often you’ll here me say that, much less type it. The oatmeal didn’t seem lost without it’s friends, the raisins, and the chocolate chips were a nice addition because, hey, it’s chocolate!
The boys had fun making these (other than a little mishap you’ll see in the video) and I loved making them because theyre comprised of only 3 ingredients;
- the mix
- 1/2 cup of butter, and
- 1 egg.
Could it be any easier?
Check out the video and see for your yourself!!
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
You know, I can’t promise to never question General Mills again. I mean, what if they try that pumpkin/key lime thing I mentioned? I can only say that if anyone has the ability to make a believer out of me…it’s them.
What flavor combinations do YOU think Betty Crocker should try?
