Easy Ice Cream Sandwiches

I was contacted by Dreyer’s Ice Cream and asked if I wanted to give some of their flavors a try.  I figured I’d take them up on the offer while giving these Easy Ice Cream Sandwiches a shot as well.

As you’re probably aware, it gets really hot here in Vegas.  If you’ve never been, let me explain just what hot is:

-Hot is 118 degrees by noon.

-Hot is 90 degrees when you walk out in the morning to grab the paper.

-Hot is not wanting to go anywhere, but when you DO go somewhere, you burn your hand trying to open the door to the store you were going to.

-It get’s so hot that it’s not uncommon to see a fire hydrant chasing a pack of dogs.

(maybe the last one isn’t true, but you get the idea.)

Easy Ice Cream Sandwiches

We’ve learned that you have to start your day early. If not, we just won’t go anywhere at all.  Those types of days are perfect for a little cooking project with the Double Trouble Duo. What better treat to make than a dish that’s been fighting the heat since 1899!

The ice cream sandwich was created in 1899 by an unknown pushcart peddler in the Bowery neighborhood of New York City.  These sandwiches consisted of vanilla ice cream pressed between two thin graham wafers.  The treat was revolutionary not only because it was hand-held and portable, but also because the heat from the hands helped to soften the ice cream, making it easier to eat. – Sugar and Snow: A History of Ice Cream Making by Jeri Quinzio

Ice cream sandwiches are super easy to make (which you can see from the video). They are also a lot fun because there are so many options.  Between different cookies, ice creams, and sprinkles, the possibilities are endless!

Check out the fun video below and then grab some Dreyer’s Ice Cream and give it a try! Feel free to check out some of our other ice cream ideas as well, and see why we think eating ice cream fast is a sign of manhood.

Oh, and make sure you share this post with a friend who could use a cool treat this summer to beat the heat!

Nothing beats an ice cream sandwich on a hot summer day.

I had never thought about making our own ice cream sandwiches just usually buy them pre-made from the store. With your video tutorial, the options are endless.

    What is your preferred kind?

Agree that summer and Ice Cream Sandwiches go together like peas and carrots. I don’t think I have a favorite. I’m a big chocolate fan, so I think if I was only making them for myself (without help from the boys) I’d do a double fudge cookie with some sort of chocolate ice cream! Glad you liked the video!

    Looks good to me.
Remember chipwiches? This seems like a nice variety.
You can’t go wrong with ice cream.

Do I remember chipwiches? Of course! Those were the days (and a grand inspiration for these!) Thanks for checking out the post!
